Kurt Weill Festival 2025

The Kurt Weill Festival celebrates its 33rd season from 28.02. – 16.03.2025 under the motto “Colors of Life”.

The program includes a total of 72 events with over 800 artists at 23 well-known and new venues.
The panel, consisting of Thomas Markworth (President of the Kurt Weill Society e.V.), presented some of them,
Katharina Markworth (Managing Director of Kurt Weill Fest Dessau GmbH), Constanze Mitter and Gerhard Kämpfe (dual leadership of the artistic direction of the Kurt Weill Fest) on 07.11.2024 as part of a event in the Feininger and Moholy-Nagy master houses.
With musical accompaniment by singer Karolina Trybala, the invited representatives of the press and the circle of supporters and sponsors of the Kurt Weill Festival moved through the Masters’ Houses and learned more about the motto and the inspirations behind it. They were joined by Winnie Böwe, Markus Paul from “Die
Damen und Herren Daffke”, singer Linebug, Sebastian Weber of the Sebastian Weber Dance Company and Lori Usai (resident artist of the Meisterhaus Residence 2025). All artists can be experienced with different, cross-genre programs in the Festival Spring 2025.

The Kurt Weill Festival will also feature a number of young artists who will not only be exploring the motto, but also the music of Kurt Weill and his contemporaries. For example, the
Axylia Trio, prize-winning ensemble of the German Music Competition, with the program Aus der neuen Welt.
The Saxony-Anhalt State Accordion Ensemble with “Kaleidoscope of Sounds” or the
Bundesjugendjazzorchester with “Die klingende Akte”.
Actor and bestselling author Christian Berkel, who will read from his novel “The Apple Tree”, and clarinettist David Orlowsky, Artist-in-Residence 2025, as musical accompanist, will also be performing on stage at the Kurt Weill Festival.

The two pianists from Queenz of Piano, who will perform a fast-paced flight through the genres of music and the concentrated versatility of the grand piano at the DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung plant in Dessau. Ute Lemper, who will present her program “Nur Weill” in honour of the 125th birthday. Till Brönner & Dieter Ilg, who will transcend genre boundaries with trumpet and double bass to create fascinating musical atmospheres and Lars Eidinger: his acting will be remembered and will breathe life into Bertolt Brecht’s work “Die Hauspostille” in his very own way as part of the Kurt Weill Fest.
The program of the Kurt Weill Festival 2025 is cross-genre and diverse. With readings, concerts, lectures, dance (both on stage and in the form of the popular 1920s party Bohème
Sauvage), drama and talks, there is something for every taste.

Once again this year, special thanks go to our fantastic partners, supporters and sponsors, who make it possible to put on this wonderful festival with such diversity and quality in its 33rd year.
