True signs. Contemporary witnesses of history

The “Open Monument Day” is an annual event that has been celebrated in Germany since 1993. The aim of this day is to raise awareness of monument protection and emphasize the importance of cultural heritage. Every year on the second Sunday in September, historic buildings, monuments and architectural treasures that are not normally accessible open their doors to the public. The aim is to arouse interest in the preservation and maintenance of monuments and to showcase the cultural diversity of the state.

In Dessau-Roßlau, Open Monument Day 2024 will be celebrated with a varied program under the motto “Wahr-Zeichen.Zeitzeugen der Geschichte”. The city, which is known for its Bauhaus architecture and cultural heritage, will be offering guided tours, lectures and exhibitions on this day, providing insights into a large number of its historical sites.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the history and special features of these monuments and find out about current restoration projects. In addition, the Bauhaus Foundation will grant free admission to its buildings on this day and offer guided tours of the Törten estate.
The Stadtmarketinggesellschaft invites you to a guided tour of the city’s historic cemetery.

You can find an overview of all the offers in the program flyer.
