Garden Kingdom Day on August 13, 2022
Garden Realm Day on August 13, 2022
Once a year, on the second Saturday in August, Garden Realm Day commemorates the birthday of Leopold III Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau (August 10, 1740). For over 20 years, this special day has been celebrated in honor of the founder of the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz.
Visitors are invited to move from place to place and experience the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz through special tours and offers.
The Stadtmarketinggesellschaft Dessau-Roßlau is participating in the Garden Kingdom Day with three tour offers:
10:00-13:00: Bike tour Bauhaus-Junkers Garden Realm.
Prince Franz of Anhalt-Dessau set a reform program in motion with the grounds of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, which was the basis for the industrial development of the city of Dessau. This early industrialization attracted both Hugo Junkers and Walter Gropius. All three were united by their belief in progress. Art and technology were to form a unity. Thus, the tour leads to the places where the pioneers worked and shows the close connection that exists between their work.
Meeting point: Tourist Information Dessau
Price: 15 € / reduced 12 €
14:00-17:00: Castle tour in a vintage bus
Leopold III Friedrich Franz, enlightened prince and duke of Anhalt-Dessau (1740-1817), wanted to “combine the beautiful with the useful”. He established a program for the development and beautification of the land that was unique in Germany and thus created the basis for the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom. During a bus tour, visit the Luisium – the romantic retreat of Princess Luise, as well as Mosigkau Park and Palace – one of the last largely preserved rococo ensembles in central Germany. Not only visiting the parks is an experience, but also the bus tour with a vintage car itself. You explore the palaces with “Friedrich”, a Mercedes Benz O305 No. 1643 from 1983. The tour ends at the Georgium. Short stops are planned in the parks. Advance booking is requested!
Meeting point: Bus parking lot at the Anhaltisches Theater (Friedensplatz/corner of Fritz-Hesse-Str.)
Price: 20 € / reduced 18 € (children, students, pensioners)
Minimum number of participants: 20 persons
Registration required: Tel. 0340-88292000 or E-Mailpost@visitdessau.com
14:00-15:30: Once Arcadia and back
On some of Prince Franz’s educational journeys, which took him through Italy, France, Holland and England, his younger brother Johann Georg accompanied him. Together with the architect Erdmannsdorff, he transformed his impressions and experiences into the Georgium. On the walk through the Georgengarten you will retrace this grand tour. Embedded in the spacious idyllic landscape garden you will see Greek temples, Roman ruins, Celtic tumuli and Egyptian sphinxes.
