Dessau-Roßlau gets back on the pedals! From September 1 to 21, 2024, everything revolves around the bicycle, because it’s time for CITY CYCLING. This competition motivates people throughout the city to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way – whether it’s to work, school or shopping. Every kilometer counts, especially if you would otherwise have traveled it by car.
Why take part?
Cycling is not only good for your health, it also protects our climate and contributes to a more liveable city. It doesn’t matter whether you already cycle regularly or are a beginner – anyone can take part. Our goal in Dessau-Roßlau is to break the 500,000 kilometer mark together over the three weeks and become the No. 1 cycling city in Saxony-Anhalt. So get on the saddle, start cycling and register now on our website!
Let’s go with the kick-off tour to the Tierparkfestival.
We will kick off CITY CYCLING 2024 in Dessau-Roßlau on 01.09.2024 with a children’s and family bike tour. Together we will cycle to the Dessau Zoo Festival – and everyone who takes part in the tour will have free admission! The family-friendly ride starts either at 10:30 am at Roßlau train station or at 11:30 am at the market square in Dessau. If you arrive earlier, you can design imaginative posters for your bike on the market square from 10:30 am. Once you arrive at the zoo, there will be an official welcome for the city cycling kick-off.
Exciting activities and events during the CITY CYCLING campaign
CITY CYCLING in Dessau-Roßlau will be accompanied by numerous great events that will make cycling even more fun:
06.09.2024, 12:00 – Cargo Bike Roadshow
Various providers will be presenting their e-cargo bikes on the Dessau market square. Here you can test the bikes and get advice. The ADFC also offers bike coding to protect your bike from theft (registration required).
06.09.2024, 17:00 – GENUSS-Radeln through Dessau
The popular GENUSS-Radeln takes place every Friday. We meet at 5.00 pm at the Dessau market square and explore the city together on a circular route. The tour is accompanied by the police and ensures a relaxed, safe cycling experience.
07.09.2024, 16:00 – Excursion tip: NATURALLY by bike – DRHV home game
Spend a sporty Saturday afternoon: cycle to the first home game of the DRHV handball team in the Anhalt Arena. Get moving and support the team at the same time.
10.09.2024, 16:00 – ADFC course: Enjoy cycling safely
This course is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their balance and braking technique. You will also learn how to get through traffic safely and stress-free. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required.
20-22.09.2024 – Lebensart trade fair in the Roßlau moated castle
Discover everything to do with gardening, living and lifestyle at the Lebensart trade fair. Combine your visit with a relaxing bike ride to Roßlau Castle. The fair is open on all three days from 10 am to 6 pm.

CITY CYCLING is more than just a competition – it is an opportunity to actively help shape our Dessau-Roßlau. The more people switch to bicycles, the more we set an example for better cycling infrastructure and climate protection.
