33rd Kurt Weill Festival - Colors of Life

Dessau-Roßlau, 26.07.2024. The anticipation is building: from February 28 to March 16, 2025, Dessau-Roßlau will once again become the center of musical and cultural events. To mark the 125th anniversary of Kurt Weill’s birth, the 33rd Kurt Weill Festival will present an extended program under the motto “Colours of Life”, with almost 70 events at over 20 venues. Visitors can look forward to a colorful mix of music, plays, readings, dance, workshops, guided tours, film screenings and panel discussions.

“Colours of Life” reflects the diversity of Kurt Weill’s life and work and emphasizes the importance of cultural diversity and freedom. “Our main aim is to broaden our view and allow unusual combinations, to interweave genres and styles and to inspire and inspire our audience,” says Constanze Mitter, artistic director, who emphasizes the artistic aspirations of the festival.

Artists such as Lars Eidinger will meet this demand with the program Die Hauspostille, in which he will recite poems by Bertolt Brecht and interpret music by Kurt Weill. Ute Lemper, the internationally acclaimed artist, will present an exclusive Weill evening in honor of Kurt Weill’s 125th birthday. The popular actress Katja Riemann will also be back in Dessau with Karneval des Glücks and jazz musician Till Brönner will also be a “repeat offender” at the Kurt Weill Fest 2025.

The festival program will be enriched by an impressive variety of other artists, including the Queenz of Piano, Dagmar Manzel, Jazzrausch, the Axylia Trio, Karsten Troyke and the Trio Scho, the Staatsoperette Dresden together with the Sebastian Weber Dance Compagny and many other renowned acts.

“The Kurt Weill Fest is particularly proud of its Artist-in-Residence 2025, clarinettist David Orlowsky. He embodies the modern and unique approach to “his” instrument,” says Gerhard Kämpfe, Artistic Director. Orlowsky can look back on a career spanning 25 years, numerous performances on the world’s most important stages and eight albums recorded exclusively for Sony Classical and Warner Classics – four of which were awarded the ECHO / OPUS Klassik prize. As part of the festival, he will perform in various formations, including with the Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, lutenist David Bergmüller and actor and author Christian Berkel

The official Kurt Weill Festival advance booking starts on November 18, 2024. Members of the Kurt Weill Society will again have the opportunity to purchase tickets from November 11, 2024.
Further information on the program details will be published on the Kurt Weill Fest website at the end of September.
