31st local history and boat festival in Roßlau

The Schifferfest in Roßlau is an annual highlight in the Dessau-Roßlau region and attracts numerous visitors. From 22 to 25 August 2024, the festival celebrates the town’s long shipping tradition for the 31st time and offers a varied program for young and old.

A festival for the whole family

The Schifferfest begins on Thursday, August 22, 2024, with a cheerful start. From 4.00 p.m., visitors to the Elbe balcony can expect a colorful range of rides from showman Wieser under the motto “Everything turns and moves”. These attractions will make children’s eyes light up on the first day and provide entertainment for the whole family. In the evening, DJ Martini creates the right atmosphere in the marquee and brings the first day of the festival to a musical close.

Traditional opening on Friday

Friday is all about tradition. After another afternoon full of rides and an encounter with the legendary Aquarius on the festival grounds, the Schifferfest is officially opened. The ceremonial flag-raising begins at 5.00 p.m., followed by a parade with the Spielmannszug Blau-Weiß Roßlau e.V. marching band, which accompanies visitors to the bridgehead, where the ceremony continues. Then it’s off to the marquee, where the Dessau-Roßlau cover band “Young Province” will provide musical entertainment from 6.00 pm.The official opening of the 31st Heimat- und Schifferfest by the ORGA team and the Lord Mayor Dr. Robert Reck, who hands over the naming certificate to the symbolic figure of Aquarius, follows at 6:15 pm.

The day concludes with a colorful musical program in the marquee, including the band “Stamping Feet” and a special performance by the artist Trompeti, who is celebrating his 25th anniversary on stage.

A weekend full of highlights

Saturday promises to be a particularly eventful day. The farmers’ market in Dessauer Straße opens at 9 a.m., where regional products from countrywomen and other vendors can be purchased. At the same time, there will be a flea market in Werftstraße and the “Mile of Clubs” on Sachsenberg- and Clara-Zetkin-Straße, where local clubs and institutions will be presenting themselves.

Sports enthusiasts will get their money’s worth at the water sports day organized by TV-Jahn 1889 e.V., where activities such as table tennis, paddling and volleyball tournaments will be on offer. There are numerous activities for younger visitors, including face painting and a ride on a barrel organ.

One of Saturday’s highlights is the spectacular motorboat show on the Elbe from 13:00, followed by a lantern parade in the evening. The big fireworks display at 10 p.m. on the Elbe is sure to be the highlight of the day and an unforgettable experience for all visitors.

The festive finale on Sunday

On Sunday, 25 August 2024, the Schifferfest is drawing to a close with a varied program. The day begins at 09:30 with a skat tournament and a church service on the Elbe. There will once again be a flea market and a vintage car exhibition in Sachsenbergstraße, while younger guests will be entertained by a puppet show and various play activities.

The musical highlight of Sunday is the afternoon concert in the marquee, performed by the Roßlau brass band and the Roßlau male choir. The festival traditionally ends with the march out of the Roßlauer Schifferverein 1847 e.V., the local council and the guests of honor, as well as the symbolic flag-off at 5:30 pm.
